"But
Auntie Anna, we want to still watch YouTube!" I pleaded glumly in my mind.
Typically, it’s easy for my brother and I to listen and to obey our mom and dad,
but what will happen if it’s not our parents who are asking us to do something?
In one occasion, when we were at my grandpa's place with my other cousins, we were spending our time by playing our gadgets and watching YouTube. However, Auntie Anna noticed that we’ve been too consumed for many hours already with watching YouTube. What happened next was not what I was expecting. Auntie Anna, told us to stop watching YouTube. She advised us to do something else like playing outside our grandpa’s house, or catching up with our other relatives instead of just using the gadget the whole day. Since our mom and dad were not there that time, I felt sad but later on I realize our Auntie Anna was just being protective to us like our mom. She just wants us to enjoy the moment we have in our grandpa’s house. My brother and I apologized for the way we acted and heed her advice to play outside and mingle with others.
This experience of mine made me understand that my obedience should not be selective. Selective obedience means you are choosing to obey only those whom you like to obey. At that moment, my Auntie Anna acted like a parent to me and my brother because she just wanted us to keep out of trouble and experience the real fun. If she did not correct us, my brother and I would not be able to enjoy exploring grandpa’s place, playing outdoor games or worse thing that could happen is we might have eye aches that day. I thank God for blessing me with people like Auntie Anna who is bold enough to correct me when I needed to be corrected!

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders.
Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another,
for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Peter 5:5
