"You smell really nice that I can't breathe now!," I sarcastically said to my brother. My brother and I are really close to each other, but there are time we get into each other's skin.
There's this instance, while we were reading our book. Our time together turned sour when I started teasing Jerry. I've said different discouraging words that I should not be saying. My brother, hearing those insults I've said, he threw his own insults at me. The once peaceful room, became a war zone full of insults being fired at each other. Our mom and dad, heard what was going inside our room. They told us to stop teasing and insulting each other. My mom explained to us saying hurtful words is totally wrong. She compared hurtful words to a nail being hammered into a plank of wood, that even if you removed the nail it will still leave a hole in the wood. Hurtful words are like the nails being hammered in us (the wood). Even though they say sorry a scar can still be left unto us.
In a world where hurtful words are easily thrown at each other, we try our best not to go along. Instead, let us practice saying encouraging words to each other. Building instead of destroying. Loving rather than hating. Smiling rather frowning. Lifting up others rather pulling them down.
If we are one of these people like me, we don't need to feel bad! We can still change by asking God for forgiveness for all the hurtful and discouraging words we've said. Say sorry to the whom you offended with our words and try our best not to do it anymore. As the Bible says our tongue is a weapon like a sword. It can hurt people if it's not used properly. Use our tongue for good, and not use it to hurt others feelings.
Prayer
Lord,
Give me a mouth that speaks good and encouraging words. Help me stop saying bad things to others. Let me choose to encourage rather than discourage. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
