Have you ever wondered of how does a typical day go for a home-schooled
kid like me? Are you curious of the activities that make us busy the whole day?
Does it boggle your mind that we look relaxed when you see us around? In this
essay of mine, I will try my best to tell you of what makes a typical day in a
homeschooling kid like me and my twin brother.
Our
week day usually starts by waking up around 7:30 am for our shooting practice. I
would change into my basketball uniform and get our practice balls and water
bottle. Then, we make a walk to the basketball court near our place. We will
usually spend 1 to 1 1/2 hours to finish our shooting drills. Sometimes, we
would drop by to the nearest hawker to buy coffee for my mom and Milo with ice
for me and my brother. Once we reached home, me and my brother will take a
shower and eat our breakfast.
Before
we start our lessons for the day, we will do our devotions. After our
devotions, we would ask our mom on the subjects and deliverable we need to do
for that day. The subjects that we usually study are Social Studies, English
and Literature, Math, Science, Mystery of History, Filipino, and our Bible. We also do
computer programming as part of our Science and Technology subject. For our deliverable, it can be book reports,
practice work on Math, programming our educational games, topical essays like
this, updating our blogs, and a lot more. Most of our subjects, except Math, I would
be doing independently, but if I don’t understand something in my lessons, I
will be asking my mom. When it comes to math, my mom and I will be studying
together. Then, I will be assigned to do some homework as part of my
deliverable.
Around 12’ o clock, we would take a
quick lunch break, after which we will go back to our schoolwork. Once I’m
finished with all my subjects and deliverable, we would take some rest and
spend some time reading the books we borrowed from the library or practice playing our piano. When it is already 4’o clock, me or my brother goes out to a
bike-parking place to fetch our dad’s bike. We also do quick errands for our
mom like buying some groceries at the supermarket. By 6:45 pm or 7’ o clock, we
would be fetching our dad at the MRT. Afterwards, we would eat our dinner.
After eating dinner, we would help out with cleaning up in the kitchen. Our day
will end by having free time to watch our favorite shows, playing our Lego,
folding origami, doing our video game programming, catching up with our dad, making our comics, or anything we
want to do with our free time.
How do you find my day as a home-schooled
kid? Wouldn’t it be nice if you are home-schooled too? You don’t have to do
homework once you get back home from school. You don’t have to feel pressured
because you won’t be defined by grades. Also, you get lots of free time to learn
the stuff you want to explore. For me and my brother, being home-schooled by our parents is a big blessing!

work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
